The holidays can be the most stressful and depressing time of the year. The media, friends, and family expect you to be “on” all the time, yet all the pressure of buying presents, attending parties, and so on can be draining.
That said, it’s an ideal time to practice finding your flow!
Start small. As they say, a journey of a 1,000 miles starts with a single step. And that first step is right in your living room . . .
One of the worst holiday “offenders” is the media. Yes, the media will report stories on holiday giving and other heartwarming tales. But the majority of what they will report on will be negative — tales of accidents, holiday scams, war, food contamination, and so on. And this is where you can start experimenting with flow.
Take out a piece of paper and make two columns. On the left side write “Life Detracting” and on the right side write “Life Enhancing”. Then turn on the news and watch it for 15 or 30 minutes. Doesn’t matter whether it’s local or national. For each story presented, excluding weather and sports, put a check in the appropriate column. Did the story enhance your life, give you actual news that made you feel better? Or did the story make you feel negative about life, not to mention paranoid.
At the end of the newscast look at your paper. You’ll find most of the checks in the “Life Distracting” column. These are things that ultimately cause blockages to your flow, as they seep into your consciousness and you won’t even know it. You’ll feel depressed for “no reason”, not to mention paranoid and angry. Then you’ll make choices based on these blockages instead of listening to your flow. And, of course, you’ll spread this negativity to others.
